Directed by DJ Wizard (WizTV), the Jersey City DJ Documentary Vol. 1 is a nearly three-hour (2:57:58) film documenting Jersey City's mixtape DJ scene as it existed in 2006, the most important single document of that era.
In the Record§
The film features interviews and home-studio performances from DJ Flash, Mista Quietman, Mark Cee, Styles 007, Man Money, DJ E Double (Double Platinum Entertainment), DJ BigTime, DJ Dolo, DJ DX, X5, Chameleon (Ka-Million), Semaj da DJ, DJ Madden, Benito, Joe Bananas, cover designer Blaze, and others.
Bonus footage includes the Winterblaze mixtape battle held at the Boys Club (2000), with battle organizer Sean interviewed and DJ Savage among the competitors -- a rare visual record of the city's battle culture.
The film preserves oral history documenting turntable battles at Audubon Park in the late 1970s and early 1980s where the winner took the loser's equipment, and names scene venues including Rendezvous (formerly Ruthie's), the Boys Club, Lollipop, Taste, and Ferris High School.
The documentary names and defines Jersey City style markers including blend-driven mixtapes, the 201 style of doubled drums, and stacked-acapella blends, making it the source record for these terms.
