J SASS, born Jennife' Askew, is a Jersey City emcee and songwriter who wrote her first rhyme at twelve.

She is a daughter of the late Lord Sun Albee Al of Sweet Slick and Sly, who guided her writing, and a sister of DJ Thunderkatt and the rapper Albee Al; DJ E Double is her cousin.
She names her influences as Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Nicky D, and Heather B., the last of them a fellow Jersey City MC.
Her work sits in conscious hip hop, drawing on soul and on themes of healing. By her own account she writes from lived experience as a mother of three, and returns to the idea that strength and vulnerability can hold the same verse.
