In the Record§
The brothers grew up in a Jersey City household with hit records already in it: after their father's death, their mother married George Brown, the founding drummer of Kool & the Gang, who became their stepfather.
Their debut single 'Set Adrift on Memory Bliss' (1991, Gee Street/Island Records) sampled Spandau Ballet's 'True' and reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, giving Jersey City one of its most commercially successful chart-toppers.
Their debut album 'Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience' (1991) established them as a critical darling of the alternative hip-hop and new jack swing era.
