Ed Shaughnessy (January 29, 1929 -- February 24, 2013) was an American jazz drummer from Jersey City, New Jersey, best known as the house drummer for 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' from 1962 to 1992, a thirty-year run that made him one of the most heard drummers in American television history.
