The Vocal-Teens were a Jersey City doo-wop group of the late 1950s, formed while its members were still in high school.

Their signature side, “Be A Slave,” was written and sung by Michael Dennis Kelly at age fourteen; the group cut it with “Till Then” as demo material in 1958–59, and the two sides sat unreleased until 1972, when Downstairs Records issued them as a 45 (Downstairs 1000).
The record became a sought-after collector's piece among doo-wop enthusiasts, trading hands at auction decades later and circulating online as an example of uptempo Jersey City doo-wop.
A group photograph preserved by the late Mike Kelly and surfaced through the doo-wop collector community names the lineup as Mike Kelly (lead on “Be A Slave”), Henry Mays (lead on the flip side), Frederick Worrell, Junior Brooks, and Sonny Campbell.
The group opened the door for Kelly's professional career: he went on to join fellow Jersey City group The Duprees, becoming a permanent lead singer in 1964.
Family testimony corroborates the lineup: Errol Mallory — nephew of member Frederick Worrell and named after him — confirmed in a 2026 collector-community thread that “Freddy Errol Worrell” was his father's brother, placing the Worrell family in the heart of Jersey City's 1950s–60s vocal-group scene.
