Thomas Vincent Cator (March 23, 1888 -- April 9, 1931) was an American composer born in Jersey City, New Jersey, whose most significant contribution was the development and advocacy of what he called the aura-modal scale.
In the Record§
Working in the early twentieth century, Cator published theoretical work on his scale system, an attempt to expand the chromatic possibilities of Western composition beyond standard tonality.
