The Catamounts were an influential soul and rhythm-and-blues ensemble from Jersey City, emerging during the mid-1970s regional music explosion and becoming a prominent representative of the “Jersey City Sound.”

Distinct from the strictly instrument-free, street-corner a cappella acts that preceded them, they bridged classic vocal harmony with the orchestration-backed, danceable deep soul that paved the way for early disco.
They recorded for Catamount Records, the Jersey City label owned by Stan Krause, who also owned the group.
Decades later the group is featured on “Blessings” by DJ DX, carrying the Catamount sound into a new generation of the city's music.
